Mongoose Expo Scooter Assembly- 9 Steps to Keep It Simple

Since 1974, Mongoose has been thriving in the market of two wheels. And this aged brand of the state also supplies a huge production of quality scooters like the one you’re going to assemble today.

Step 1: Unpack the Scooter

In the beginning, we have the step that every living person finds satisfying, unpacking.

If you’ve purchased from an official showroom Mongoose, then there should be a seal indicating the package is intact.

Open the big package that your scooter comes with and move everything that you find inside. Make sure to check if all the parts inside are intact and fresh.

Step 2: Prepare All the Parts

All the parts you’ll bring out from the package are most likely to be wrapped with poly. You need to remove all that wrapping carefully.

To remove the wrapping, we would suggest you use your bare hands. We don’t want you to get a scratch on the new parts right away.

Some people leave all the parts wrapped just like it comes. Hopefully, you’re not one of those people.

In the long term, those wrappings might cause unwanted scratches if you leave them on the pieces. You’ll be making it worse instead of making it look brand new.

Step 3: Install the Handle

Next up, get the parts together. The first part is the handlebar of the scooter. To put it in place, you need to remove the gooseneck, which is set in place with four bolts.

Grab the Allen wrench and remove the bolts. Now place the middle part of the handlebar on the clamp and ensure that you have the right alignment.

Don’t forget to make sure the brakes are aligned to provide you with the expected comfort while riding the scooter. Then, put the clamp in place and fit it in place with the bolts.

Step 4: Install the Brakes

Most of the time, the brakes are packed separately from the frame of the scooter. In that case, you might need to use the Allen wrench to attach it to the scooter frame.

Make sure that you have them set in the right place and tighten them. The slightest negligence can cost you a few injuries in the future.

Step 5: Set the Brake Wires

For the front brake, attach the brake cable’s end to the lever and the other end to the brake caliper. Adjust the brake lever and the wire according to your comfort.

For the rear brake, you need to attach the brake cable to the detangler that you’ll find on the gooseneck. The section behind the handlebar clamp is known as the detangler.

Attach the rear brake wire with the detangler and adjust it with the plate. Then, tighten the nuts of the cables using the 10mm wrench

Make sure that after you’re done setting the scooter, the lever doesn’t feel too tight or too loose. Both can call out for unwanted injuries in the future.

Step 6: Install the Front Wheel

Keep the brakes loose because it’ll be easier for you to attach the wheel to the frame. However, the front and the rear wheels are slightly different.

So, how do you understand which one is the front wheel?

If you take a close look, you’ll notice the slight difference in the hardware on the axles. The front wheel will have washers that have little tabs on the end.

Loosen up the nuts so that they move toward the end of the axles, don’t remove them completely.

Place the wheel at the required place and screw the washers on both sides together. You can use the 15mm box wrench to tighten the wheel. We need to make sure the wheel is as centered as possible.

If you ever need to change or replace any mongoose expo scooter accessories, make sure that you’re grabbing the designated ones. The official parts will bring the best out of your scooter.

Step 7: Install the Rear Wheel

When it comes to the rear wheel, you’ll notice that there are a plastic cap and washer instead of tabs. These plastic caps need to be removed before the installation of the wheel.

Also, there are shoulder washers on both sides and those are going to engage in the grooves at the back.

The installation of the rear wheel is as same as the front wheel of the scooter. Place them, make sure that they are as centered as possible, and fix them in place.

Step 8: Set the Brakes Right

You might be wondering, what setting a brake right really means

In order to work perfectly, the brake pads of the brake need to be perfectly in place on the wheels.

In other words, the brake pads should be positioned in a way so that they can hug the rims tight. And that tight hug will result in stopping the wheels from moving.

Step 9: Align the Handlebar

There are several incidents where the scooter crashes because of the wrong alignment of the handlebar.

The easiest way to fix this alignment is to hold the front wheels with your legs and adjust the handlebar. Simply put, you just need to make sure that the whole scooter is in a straight line of gravity.
